Replacement fuel injectors

Postby Martin Cridford » 22 Aug 2017 13:38

Having read a RV8 note on V8 engine tuning I'm interested in Bosch replacement injectors because they are said to have a better injection spray performance than the original Lucas items and give smoother running plus a little more torque, etc. I searched for the recommended Bosch Injectors (0280156013/185cc) but these don't seem to be available any more. Inspection of the Bosch USA online catalogue doesn't list the RV8 but does list other injectors for various other Rover 4l V8 applications, eg Land Rover.

Can anyone advise which Bosch injector replaces the above part number and can be used to give better running?
Thanks

An update:
As a result of a little more 'googling' I have found the following information;
The original 3.9l V8 standard injector is MGR No: ERR 722 and carries the Bosch number 0280156024. Fitting a later injector than the above is a recommended upgrade for the Rover V8 which gives better performance in terms of MPG, torque and smoother running. This injector, Bosch 0280155884, is the Generation III version by Bosch which has better spray pattern and finer droplet size which promotes more efficient combustion.

Both of the above injectors were/are commonly used on a number of UK/European engine applications most interestingly those from MGR, eg, various recent MGs including K-Series MGZR, MGF and MGTF. It would seem that replacing the injectors with this newer injector may be the way forward for an otherwise unmodified engine aiming to achieve better running rather than more power. It is also said to require no changes to the engine management.

When I replaced the injectors in #590 some time ago, I used this company: https://www.fiveomotorsport.com
Don't remember the part numbers but I can check with the new owner. He has the receipts.

Yes Simon, I've been in touch with Five-O and they recommend the same 'Range Rover' upgrade utilising the same newer design Bosch Gen III injectors.

Martin,

I replaced with Bosch a few months ago and although I haven't covered too many miles yet (only a couple of tanks of fuel), the general impression is a more stable idle and improved MPG.

I used Tornado Systems who supplied an overhauled and matched set under Bosch No 0280155746 (originaly listed for Volvo - yellow body). The only differences I can see when compared with 0280155884 is that the former have a slightly higher resistance and are capable of flowing slightly more.

They are more compact and 'tick' - only noticeable with the bonnet open.

One observation - when I pulled the original injectors from the fuel rail, corrosion was present at, or slightly above, the injector seating position. It would not clean up so I had to purchase a new fuel rail - good ones are now getting rare and expensive.

John.
