Re: RV8 aircon vacuum valve

Postby Anthony David Marchington » 02 Jul 2017 15:41

I have glued the round body to the flange and it has worked, much to my surprise! The question is how long it will last! I have sourced a valve on eBay which I should get next week and will use this one for the "hidden" cut off valve when I replace it. Am pretty sure both have gone and when I switch on the aircon no cool air comes out of the centre square vents but plenty comes out of the small round vent on the nearside of the dashboard. Am tempted to fit a hidden manual control to both flaps to use in future as with summer temperatures reaching the mid 30's here and the heat coming out of the engine I really need aircon. Heating on the other hand hardly ever. Just fitted new Continental Tyres to replace my twelve year old ones. Really improved comfort and ride.

It is just the one that you have super glued that needs replacing as this controls the a/c flow to the face vents.

No! I have not glued two parts of casing together, only the cup shaped part of the rubber diaphragm to the rubber flange. It seems to have worked but I wonder for how long.
I now have to tackle the other one behind the dashboard. Tried to get a replacement on eBay but no luck. Will try Rover.

I glued the main part of the diaphragm to the flange, from which it had completely detached. It worked for about a week but has again gone as has the second vacuum actuator behind the dashboard. I have contacted a number of Landrover specialists who initially said they could get me two pieces of part RTC6696 Heater Blower Vacuum Actuator. Sadly three of them have now come back to say the part is " NLA". Has anyone any suggestions? Does anyone know a specialist car breaker who deals in Landrovers and Discoverys ? I have thought of glueing a "condom" to the inside of the rubber diaphragm to strengthen and seal the body, if all else fails! Any other more sensible suggestions will be much appreciated!!
